Aid provided to 3.6 million more.
The Department of Education has canceled student loan debt for 40,000 people. In addition, the department has offered credits to help another 3.6 million pay off their loans under a plan designed to help low-income borrowers and public servants.
Education Secretary Miguel Cardona stated, “Student loans were never meant to be a life sentence, but it’s certainly that that way for borrowers locked out of debt relief they’re eligible for.”
The Education Department reported that President Biden’s administration canceled more than $17 billion in debt for 725,000 borrowers in its first year in office while also extending a pause on loan repayment that has provided at least temporary relief for 41 million borrowers.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For the president and his education advisors as they strategize federal student loan relief.
- For Secretary Cardona and other Education Department officials as they implement the president’s agenda.
- That COO Rich Cordray would lead the Federal Student Aid office with discernment.
